Bird Watching

Bird Watching

Praying together under the Juniper shadows
Next to the small altar fire where you burn your past
Holding our hands tight together
Your eyes follow the carrion birds as they circle high above
Maybe you have followed them too far now?
Or maybe not far enough?

There is a question that lingers in the air
Just beneath Lark's fairy-tale song
But I am just not able to hear the words.
And as I try to find this bird hidden in the branches,
You vanish into the underbrush
Following a song that only you can hear.

Some stories are only understood when shared
Some songs can only be sung together
And some trails must be walked hand in hand.
But not always. No …. not always.
