I Am Drum Mandala

Four sticks from four dear friends
From four sacred places
Beat upon my skin
One yellow, one red,
One black, one white.

I vibrate from deep within
As each strike falls,
As each strike rises again
And symbols emerge from my center
From that place betwixt and between.

Symbols of color and script
Symbols of melody and import
Symbols with and without obvious meaning.

So here I vibrate outward and inward
Into the world around - and the world within
Until I am so tired
Because I have failed to find the way
To receive the messages of others.
